Beyond Neptune

I thought you'd always be there
Took you for granted - like so much astronomy
Out beyond Neptune there's no planet anymore
And you say you never loved me

Numbers and letters on top of the blackboard
And a chart of nine planets that circle the sun
They taught us Clyde Tombaugh discovered the smallest
If that can just change can we still count on one?

Some of Clyde's ashes were put on a ship
That left on a ten-year-long mission in space
Just after blast-off the news came from Prague
There isn't a planet at the rendezvous place

Now you're cold, dark and distant, so far from the sun
That to you it just looks like a star
All its light and its heat can't melt your ice
By the time that they get where you are
